Thai Airways try to compete againts low cost carriers

Thai Airways International is discounting fares by nearly 50% on 11 domestic routes in a stepped-up competition with budget carriers.

The ”Explorer CorrectThailand Fares” campaign, for travel up to to Sept 30, is meant to drum up sales during the low season and to woo back passengers from budget carriers including Thai AirAsia, One-Two-Go Airlines and even from its own subsidiary, Nok Airlines.

The one-way economy fares, excluding passenger service charges and other fees, range from 830 to 2,720 baht, THAI said yesterday. The passenger service charge (airport tax) and other applicable fees amount to 1,000 baht in total.

The fare from Bangkok to Chiang Mai is 1,200 baht, to Chiang Rai 1,240 baht, Phitsanulok 830 baht, Ubon Ratchathani 1,200 baht, Udon Thani 1,225 baht, Khon Kaen 1,065 baht, Surat Thani 1,160 baht, Phuket 1,440 baht, Krabi 1,340 baht and Hat Yai 1,390 baht. The fare from Chiang Mai to Phuket is 2,720 baht.
