Liverpool legends Ian Rush and John Barnes are on their way to Thailand to play in the Tesco Lotus Bangkok Masters Tournament at Dhepatsadin Stadium on June 2 and 3.

The tournament, organised by the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand (BCCT), has attracted 24 teams from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Brunei along with teams representing the Thai, British, German, French and Scandinavian communities in Thailand.

Joining Rush and Barnes in the All Stars team will be double European Cup Winner Viv Anderson, former Chelsea winger Clive Walker, former Arsenal defender Gus Caesar, and ESPN commentator Paul Masefield.

Tesco Lotus, who have brought the Liverpool football stars to Thailand, have also arranged for Rush and Barnes to conduct football clinics for local schoolchildren at Tesco Lotus Kamtieng stores in Chiang Mai on June 1, Lad Phrao store in Bangkok on June 2, and Phuket store on June 5.

“We were very pleased at the public response to Ian’s involvement in the Bangkok Masters last year,” said Tesco Lotus Senior Corporate Affairs Adviser, Justin Barnett.

“In particular, the clinic for schoolchildren at Lad Phrao store, was very successful, so this year we felt we should extend the programme to include another great Liverpool player, John Barnes, and hold additional clinics in Chiang Mai and Phuket.”
